In this talk, Manthia Diawara discusses his theoretical and filmic contributions in relation to the work and influence of Caribbean philosopher and poet Edouard Glissant. In 2009, Diawara directed the film One World in Relation that documented his conversations with Martinican philosopher, writer, and poet Édouard Glissant aboard the Queen Mary II on their transatlantic journey from Southampton, England to New York City. This intellectual voyage encapsulates Glissant’s life’s work and studies on his theory of Relation and the concept of Tout-monde, amongst several other of his philosophical suppositions.
Manthia Diawara is a Malian writer, filmmaker, cultural theorist, scholar, and art historian. He holds the title of University Professor at New York University, where he is Director of the Institute of Afro-American Affairs.
